Dr. Mary Hickey (Doherty) DPT, MPH passed away on June 17, 2021 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was the beloved wife of Andrew Hickey, to whom she was married for 34 years and an incredible mother to her twin daughters Julia (Hickey) Kapp and Kathryn Hickey. This fall would have marked 25 years of dedicated service to her students at Northeastern University. In 2015 she was the recipient of the James A. Gould Excellence in Teaching Orthopedic Physical Therapy award. This esteemed award is a nationally recognized for excellence in instructing orthopedic physical therapy principles and techniques with exemplary teaching skills. Mary thoroughly enjoyed helping students navigate their own paths, no matter how obscure or less traveled the path may be. Dr. Mary J. Hickey’s legacy here in the Department of Physical Therapy, Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences at Northeastern University is one of love, compassion, spirit and an unequivocal level of candid honesty. We are all deeply saddened by her loss and forever grateful for the contributions she has made to Northeastern University, the Physical Therapy Department and the Profession of Physical Therapy. This fund will be used to financially assist students who study Physical Therapy at Northeastern University.
